About

Jody Miller MFT is my private psychotherapy practice started in 1990 and serving Philadelphia and its’ surrounding areas for 20 years. My Master’s Degree is from Hahnemann University where I learned from the great experts and innovators in the field of psychotherapy, marriage and family counseling.

After years in clinical directorships at in-patient facilities as well as community mental health clinics, I decided it was my time to strike out on my own and use my experience to help those seeking treatment and growth in the community at large. Those people who desired treatment to deal with the circumstances of their lives, as well as to grow within and to share their newfound insight in their lives.

My approach to psychotherapy is eclectic in nature, in that I combine many different methods in order to best suit my patients’ needs. I see an array of patients weekly; from people experiencing life trauma and severe mental and emotional crisis to people looking for life coaching; those folks simply wanting advice and support in improving their quality of life.

I have many years experience in marriage and couple’s counseling and have facilitated and witnessed many happy endings to extremely complicated relationship problems. Whether you are dating, engaged or married, couples’ counseling is the most intelligent way for a relationship to proceed to the next level when staying the same is no longer an option. I use various methods to enhance communication that typically lead to conflict resolution between partners and spouses and family members.

I am also extremely developed in the treatment of addictions. Whether this involves alcohol, substances, gambling or sexual addiction I am connected and respectful of all 12-step programs but not limited to them in my approach. There are times in one’s struggle with addiction when they are not ready to reveal themselves in an AA group. There are also times in one’s recovery, even while utilizing a 12 step program, that adding individual counseling will be an enhanced vehicle to take them to a more focused and personalized level of growth.

Part of almost all treatment involves delving into family of origin issues. These often are the complex issues of childhood and adolescence, which result in common blockages in current and adult life. I help you find new understanding and insight rather then relying on outdated coping mechanisms developed at an earlier time, which confuse and cloud, rather then clear, your issues.

Therapy with me is oriented towards growth and results. My motivation is to help you find resolutions in a brief period. Working together, we will get you feeling more balanced by the first session and on your way to understanding and resolving lifetime issues in a relatively short period of time. I am very proactive in my approach and will not be that therapist nodding to you as you talk endlessly about what plagues you. Although I am aware of the necessity of  “venting” at times I will help you see your way through to solutions and insight into current life situations.

Lastly, I believe that people having the courage to see a professional to discuss those issues that everyone else in your life will be biased towards…puts you head and shoulders beyond those folks who suffer in silence and call it strength. Although therapy is commonly confused with the false idea of weakness, it is truly a willingness to come away from a mindset of rigidity and the denial of the difficulty of living in a world often filled with chaos and broken dreams.

I can promise you a life of higher awareness about the way you, and those around you, really tick. Together, we can get you on the path of meeting your greatest potential, whether you come individually, as a couple or as a family. Let me help you opt for a life of stability, happiness and fulfillment, no matter what your past or present circumstances…within every problem there is an amazing opportunity for growth…take this opportunity and grow with it!!!
